Welcome

Greetings pool friends,

It’s almost that time again: the 14th Open Groningen is about to start!

For many the Open Groningen has brought a number a beautiful moments in the last 13 episodes and has risen to a large and eccentric tournament in a small and eccentric city. The international appearance and entirely own atmosphere make this tournament  into special opportunity for both top players from multiple international countries, and our own ‘local heroes’ to try and beat these top players.

Previously there have been participants from Germany, Norway, England and even the Philippines. There have been winners of this tournament from Germany, England and of course the Netherlands; the last few years the Netherlands have dominated the tournament. But a semi-pro player from Germany named Christian Reimering put the tournament in his name last year and took the cup to our neighbours from the east.  We can only speculate who will come out on top this year.

Due to changing popularity of the Pool sport in the Netherlands as well as the waving motion of players cause to travel all over the country to play some tournaments, the team of Cue Action Groningen, together with the taskforce Open Groningen, decided to lend an ear to the request of the KNBB to let this tournament be a part of the National Ranking. This means that besides the splendid price money, ranking points can also be earned for the NR

The informal character of the Open Groningen, showed itself by not having a required dress code, and to top it off having to crown a winner who accomplished this achievement wearing nothing but a sleeveless t-shirt, shorts and slippers. Despite the integration of this tournament in the NR-cycle, and with that certain rules, it is important to the Open Groningen to keep that informal and eccentric character. Therefore in agreement with the KNBB, during this tournament there still will be no dress code.

Besides the informative character of this website, the taskforce Open Groningen wishes to give the possibility to participants to register digitally.

If you want to follow the achievements of your friends or some of the famous top players, this has been made possible under menu option results. The results will be kept up-to-date regularly.

Every relevant tournament information can presently be viewed under multiple tabs on this website. There is also a possibility for participants from a distance to calculate the route, and a few accomodation suggestions for the night can be found as well.

To finalize, the team of Cue Action Groningen and the taskforce Open Groningen wishes you a warm welcome to the 14th Open Groningen on July 19th in Cue Action Groningen.
